If you have been invited to an interview
What actually happens?
You open the link, allow your camera and microphone, and read a short consent screen. Then an AI interviewer talks with you for as long as the employer scheduled, usually around 20 minutes. It asks about the skills the role needs and follows up on what you say. When it ends, the employer receives a report. You do not need an account and there is nothing to install.
Do I have to do it right now?
No. The employer gives you a window, normally one or two weeks, and you can take it at any point inside that, including evenings and weekends. Nobody is waiting on a call.
What do I need?
A laptop or desktop with a working camera and microphone, and a reasonably stable internet connection. A phone will not work, because the interview needs camera, microphone and screen sharing at the same time. Use a quiet room if you can, and headphones help.
What if my connection drops?
Reopen the same link. You can rejoin and carry on, as long as you are still inside the window the employer set.
Am I being judged on how I look or sound?
No. The assessment is based on what you said, read from the transcript. Sophia does not assess appearance, accent, tone of voice, facial expressions or personality, and it does not infer age, gender, ethnicity, disability or emotional state.
What is the integrity check looking for?
After the interview the recording is reviewed for three things: whether your eyes moved away from your screen for a sustained stretch, whether a second face appeared, and whether you left the camera. The employer gets a list of timestamps they can watch. It does not produce a score, it does not change your assessment, and it never says you did anything wrong. Looking away to think is normal and shows up as exactly that.
Can I refuse, or get my recording deleted?
You can decline consent, and if you do, nothing is recorded. After an interview you can ask for your recording to be deleted. Ask the employer who invited you, since they can do it immediately, or email privacy@sophia.cleverhire.ai and we will pass it on and help them action it.
Will I see my results?
No. The report goes to the employer, and candidates are not shown scores. Ask the employer for feedback; that is their decision to give.
If you are hiring
How do I get started?
Create an account, buy a pack of minutes, create a role with the skills you want tested, then add candidates and send invitations. The first interview takes about ten minutes to set up.
How does the assessment decide a score?
For each skill you marked, a language model reads the transcript, rates how well the candidate demonstrated it, and quotes the part of the answer it relied on. You can check every rating against the words that produced it.
Skills the conversation never reached come back as unassessed rather than scored. This is deliberate and it is the main thing that separates Sophia from other tools: a 20-minute interview cannot cover eight skills properly, and quietly scoring the ones it missed would be inventing information.
How many skills should I list?
Four or five for a 20-minute interview, and mark the two or three that genuinely matter as must-have. List twelve and you will get a report full of unassessed rows, which is honest but not useful. If you need more covered, schedule a longer interview.
Can it be wrong about someone?
Yes. It can miss a good answer, misread a strong candidate who explains things unconventionally, or rate someone well who interviews better than they work. It is a first-round screen designed to save you the first conversation, not to replace your judgement. That is why every rating comes with the quote behind it: so you can disagree with it.
Does it decide who to hire?
No, and it will not be made to. There is no automatic pass or reject and no ranking of candidates against each other. You read the evidence and decide.
How do credits work?
- One credit is one minute of live interview.
- Inviting a candidate reserves the maximum length of that interview. A 30-minute invitation holds 30 credits.
- You are charged for the minutes actually connected. The rest goes back to your balance.
- Credits expire 12 months after purchase, and we email you 30 and 7 days beforehand.
What if an interview fails?
If it failed because of us, the credits come back. Email support and we will sort it out. If a candidate simply did not turn up, those minutes were never connected, so nothing was charged.
Who on my team can see what?
There are two roles. Administrators see every interview in the workspace and manage billing and team members. Members see only the interviews they created themselves, and no billing information. Reports are never publicly linkable.
How long do you keep recordings?
Sixty days by default, and you can shorten that to thirty in your workspace settings. You can delete any interview yourself at any point, and export the report and evidence as a PDF before you do.
What am I responsible for legally?
You decide who is interviewed and what happens to the result, which makes you responsible for the legality of your hiring process. Several places have specific rules for AI video interviews, including Illinois and New York City, typically requiring that you tell candidates AI will be used, explain what it evaluates, obtain consent, and delete recordings on request. Sophia handles the consent step and our privacy page sets out in plain language how the analysis works, so you can point candidates at it to meet your disclosure duties.
Do you integrate with my ATS?
Not yet. Connectors for the major platforms are in progress. Today you export the report as a PDF and attach it wherever you keep candidate records.
Can interviews be in other languages?
Not yet. Interviews are conducted in English. More languages are in progress.
